Saw this in Toronto at Bayview Village.......
Once again, I am going to bitch about the state of movie theatres today.
Not only have they overinflated the admission and concession prices,
they have cut out crucial positions such as full time projectionists.
75% of the way through this REALLY GOOD movie, the picture became
blurry...then REALLY blurry, and then disappeared altogether. We were
staring at a blank screen.
NO ONE CAME TO FIX IT.
My friend Andrea and another patron went to look for an employee to fix it... yet there was no one to be found. 20 minutes later, we were all out of the theatre, in the lobby, eating ice cream since the cooler was open, waiting for someone to surface. Eventually, three employees (two girls and one guy manager) came out of the staff room door laughing. They were shocked to see us all standing there pissed off. They refused to answer my question of "where were you guys for so long?" and instead offered us free passes. My guess is that they were:
a. smoking up
b. having sex
Either way, I missed the ending, was given two passes for Alliance Atlantis theatres which are only in Toronto and Victoria, and left pissed off.
I would love to see how this ends since it was a hilarious movie, with wonderful actors, and a spectacular dialogue.
Shame.

Based on a true story. A cute one at that.
I love a good drag queen movie. This was just that. Nothing more.
A good rental.

Who frickin made this movie and why?
I agreed to see this movie with Bob - and was not pleasantly surprised. It was hard to follow, and poorly made.
Is it just me, or does Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx think they are the sexiest
men on earth? I could feel their smugness and conceit through the screen.
Jamie, put your shirt back on.
Colin, shave your face man.

Okay, if you've seen this movie it's because you're a Kevin Smith fan,
or because you were dragged to it. If the latter, you won't understand
my rating since it would come across as ridiculous. However, if you've
seen his other movies: Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, etc....... you'll love this movie. It had all of the same qualities - vulgarity,
intelligent dialogue, and hilarity.
I was hesistant that Rosario was in this movie, as I have never seen
her in a comedy - yet she was the perfect addition. I laughed my ass off, I
enjoyed the conversations, and most of all, I understood where these
guys were in their life and the pressure they felt to fit in and be
accepted for what/where you are, not who you are.
I'll be buying this one on DVD when it comes out.
Funny.

This movie is by no means an award winner but it was cute overall. Apparently it's based on a true story, although not proven....
The soundtrack was excellent so I downloaded the whole thing when I arrived home.
Not really much to say, other than the other assistant being fabulous. I saw her in another movie called "My Summer of Love" and wasn't really a fan of her character - but this character was awesome.
Bitch from Hell!
Loved it.

The Break Up
Rating: 4/10
Why would someone intentionally write a movie where the viewer has to sit through their excruciating arguments and painful relationship problems?
I saw Vince Vaughn on a talk show where he was saying that he wrote some of this movie and it is funnier than any comedy he has seen - so clever and unique. Well it was unique alright. My parents weren't fighters so I have no tolerance for hearing crap like this.
I was so happy that she didn't take him back in the end (even after he had his stupid epiphany). That part was pleasing to me. No need to teach the teenagers watching this movie to settle for treatment like this. The game playing was ridiculous as well. Just say what you mean and mean what you say. Gawd.
There were a FEW laughs, but not enough to make up for the stress of watching this car wreck.
Put a bullet in my head please.

I chose this movie since Annette gave me a free pass to use on my birthday...so it was between The Davinci Code, Poseidon, or the cartoon. I chose the cartoon and dragged Lisa along. I didn't think that it would be the best cartoon that I have ever seen though! It was amazing!
This was one of the most clever animated features I have ever watched. They poke fun at humans and how we are lazy, and wasteful...sad but true. So much of this movie, like other animated ones, is marketed towards the adults rather than the children.
Perfect depiction of cats and dogs as well. God this was a funny movie.
I will buy this one on DVD when it comes out.

I wish I was watching this movie with either Bob or Keltie, as they would have enjoyed the cynicism towards the artsy fartsy types. There were so many satirical knocks towards artists - which managed to be quite funny. There were only a few big names in this movie which was refreshing. Overall, I enjoyed it...and laughed a lot. It was a good night out alone :)

Friends With Money
Rating: 6/10
Movie was okay. It's a REAL movie, depicting REAL characters. It's exhausting watching shows like Friends and Will and Grace where everything is always wonderful and peachy keen. This movie shows that these friends are close, but they are cynical and honest towards one another. It was nice to see Jennifer Aniston as the dope smoker, as she always plays goodie-two-shoe characters....what else...oh, Frances McDormand was hilarious as usual, and Catherine Keener....man that woman needs to stop whining in movies and actually show us a glimpse of a smile. The only movie that I have really LIKED her in was the 40 Year Old Virgin, only because she was different than the others. She's someone who is majorly typecast into these depressing, bitchy roles. Joan Cusack was looking old in this movie...and she's only 44. She looks like she could use a 3 day sleep. Maybe she's working too hard? OR maybe her character was supposed to look like that. And yes, I know I am not as young as I used to be either...so zip it.

Oh my goodness - finally a movie that was made for me. The subtleties of this movie were fantastic. How many people can make a movie with this title and make it work? This guy - that's who. His name is Jason Reitman, and he's a genius.
So many scenes come to mind when I think back to this movie...father and son watching the big screen TV in the lobby, the son's comments when his father comes in to speak to the class, the fight between the Merchants of Death, the name of the son's school, etc. This movie was so incredibly intelligent that I am waiting for the next gem from Jason Reitman.
I'm sure the book is probably good as well, but as I was reading the blog entries on www.imdb.com I came across this one that made me laugh...it's so true, lol.

"Seriously, every time that a movie is made after a book, anyone who has read the book clamours on and on about how the book was better than the movie. I really don't care and it just seems like a vain attempt to point out to everyone how you read the book."

Anyone that knows me well also knows that I am a sucker for ballroom dancing. It's such a darn cool sport. And yes, I believe it is a sport.
Sport : an active diversion requiring physical exertion and competition
The movie was a true story, and although cheese-a-balla at times, I turned off my brain and enjoyed the dance sequences. It was my substitute for Dancing With The Stars which should be on every week of the year if you ask me.
P.S If you ever were interested in taking a ballroom dancing course...but were afraid to admit it, contact me m.maloney@shaw.ca :)

This was a confusingly witty movie that had twists and turns that weren't predictable. The first half of the movie was hilarious...some people didn't quite get the humour, but I was howling. The second half was more serious, and concentrated on showing the viewers the background of the story and how it ended up where it did. Lucy Liu was great in her role, and Morgan Freeman said the f-bomb about 6 times. I don't think I had ever heard him swear so much in one movie. It was awesome. Pay attention to the Forrest Gump Bubba guy who has the funniest facial expression throughout the movie. That alone made me giggle for minutes after his scenes were finished.
Bonus points for having a Canadian in the movie...Peter Outerbridge. You may remember him as a transgendered character in Better Than Chocolate. Oh, and one of the downtown scenes was busted by the TD bank tower in the background. Only a Canadian would catch that I guess :)

Inside Man
7.5/10
Spike Lee directed this movie and it was pretty good. I like that he uses a few big names for the lead roles and then gives other people opportunities as the supporting actors. Guaranteed that they will be big names soon - especially the woman cop...
In typical Spike Lee fashion, he had a few scenes where the actor moves from point A to point B on a moving platform to illustrate movement with no walking...love that.
Jodi Foster - could she have nicer legs? I don't think so - she was in like 5 inch heels throughout the movie and her gams were PERFECT. I read somewhere that she was excited to do this movie since she never gets to dress up in classy outfits...thinking back, that is so true...Nell....The Accused....Contact....
Word Choice - please tell me that the "c" word isn't going to make its way into north american movies now. Such a shame. There are words to use in place of it. Rude.
Denzel's wardrobe - I felt like I was watching some 1950 gangster movie when watching his costumes. Old style hats, bright suits, etc. Can you say Cab Calloway?
When the movie ended, I had to ask Bob to explain a few scenes to me. Lately I think my brain is turning to mush, so I require a tutor to let me know these things. Thank God for Bob - because afterwards it all made sense and wasn't such a bad movie after all.

For some reason I thought this movie was going to be totally sci-fi.....so I was pleasantly surprised when I realized it was not. It was a little futuristic but not absolutely unrealistic.
Interesting story...although it confused me in some areas. The whole mask thing got on my nerves at times, since I am someone that likes to analyze people's facial expressions, etc. For example, It drives me crazy when I am speaking to someone that has their sunglasses on..doesn't allow me to see their eyes. So to watch this dude for 2 + hours speaking out of a mask, bothered me...although I know that was part of why they did it. I get it, I get it.
3/4 of the way through the movie I got a giggle attack which stayed with me for about 10 minutes - and managed to be contagious. Lisa and I giggled while Jay remained enthralled with the flick.
A total "guy" movie.
I've seen worse. See "Hostel".

Lisa and I just wanted some popcorn one night so we went to the closest theatre and chose a movie. Unfortunately this was the one we chose....
It wasn't even a "turn off your brain and enjoy" kind of movie. It was pretty stupid and contrived. But the popcorn and the company was good...so all in all....it was a good night.

First off, this movie was waaaaaaaaaaay toooooo looooooooong. 164 minutes. 2.73 hours. 9840 seconds. If driving to Edmonton, I would have been there before the movie ended.
I was disappointed that there wasn't more coverage of what actually happened at the Olympics - rather than a 5 minute segment at the beginning of the movie. Instead it was about 160 minutes of retaliation...which became tiresome after a while.
I'm sure this movie was well done and all that jazz...but did it captivate me? Absolutely not. It's one of those movies that was "okay" but I would never watch it for a second time...

It occured to me as I was watching the Oscars (It's Hard Out Here For a Pimp!) that I never reviewed this movie back in the summer when I saw it...
The performance of this song at the Oscars probably makes people wonder WHY this won best song of the year...however...the people that sang it there didn't do it justice. You have to see the way they sing it in the movie to appreciate it. It's actually pretty cool.
The segment where they are recording this song in the movie was my favourite part...things just came together and the skinny white kid was hilarious.
Overall a decent movie - worth renting.

Imagine Me and You
6/10
This movie had a "Love Actually" feel to it. Filmed in Britain. Totally and completely unbelievable mind you, but a light feel nonetheless.
Here is the short and cynical plotline: Boy meets girl, they fall in love and get married. Girl sees the woman who did their wedding flowers as she walks down the aisle and she falls instantly in love with her. She gets married anyhow. Enter lesbian love affair. Girl tells husband that she is in love with a woman and husband tells her that everything is okay - she should follow her heart. Girl immediately comes out to her parents and they support her without question - she finds the flower girl who is on her way to the airport (typical) - professes her love...and guess what? They live happily ever after.
Life isn't like that, but there should be no reason that lesbian chick flicks should be any different from heterosexual chick flicks I guess.
Piper Perabo is beautiful by the way - I thought she was much younger than she actually is. She looks damn good for her age. She did a good job with the english accent too. I often wonder how hard that would be to do as an actor.

I expected more. More what, you ask? I have no idea. Just more. Julianne Moore was difficult to believe in the white-trash role since she has only played upper-class women in movies that I have seen her in. Not to say that she didn't do a good job (she always does), I just didn't know how to take her in this one. No one's performance really stood out, the storyline was depressing, and it just didn't "grab" me. There was one part that made me laugh though.
They are waiting for the kid to be exhumed from his grave...and when Samuel L Jackson gets the page/call, Julianne screams out " IS HE OKAY???"
I pissed my pants. No actually, Julianne, last we checked he was DEAD.

This should be under the "things I do for my friends" section. Uncle Paulie wanted to see this one really badly so I succombed to his request.
Now here is my rant:
COULD PEOPLE POSSIBLY SHUT THE HELL UP IN A THEATRE? I mean is that too much to ask nowadays? Have people forgotten what it means to whisper? Everyone around me was talking during this movie...if it were a good movie I would have been more pissed, but since it wasn't, I let it go (as much as I could, because now I am being all passive aggressive in this rant section).
Back to the movie:
Pretty gay. Paul said he would be disappointed if I rated this less than an 8, because he really enjoyed the movie (to each his own). I can't give it an 8, however. The acting was bad, the writing was poor and scenes were cheesy. I think I was the only one giggling at the absurdity of each death scene. Should have gone straight to DVD. Paul, you owe me.
